The doubt of whether or not Kobe Bryant will opt out of his contract and play for another team has come to an end. Today, he signed a three-year extension with the Los Angeles Lakers for $84 million! Paul Gasol says of the good news, "It's a beautiful thing, a great thing. It's been the goal of the franchise and I am immensely happy for us, for each and every one of us. It's a great day that Kobe finally got that extension signed. I'm happy for him and happy for ourselves, too."
He was under contract next season for $47.8 million and there was some speculation that he was reconsidering playing for another team. However, it has been confirmed by the General manager Mitch Kupchak that he will be staying with the Lakers. Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest will also reside on the team for another three years. Phil Jackson says of his signing, "It's a logical choice, a good choice for him and the organization. I'm sure the organization wanted him to spend his entire career here. He is by far the hardest-working player that I've ever been close to. He's done a fantastic job and to sustain this, he has to do more of the playmaking, more of the jump shooting and less of that crash-ball that has been one of the things that no one has been able to stop him from getting to the basket." Shoutouts to the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant on the new contract! Pow!
